Workshop on Chemical and Atmospheric Measurements
Welcome to the next instalment in our STEM Workshop series!
In this workshop, participants will dive deeper into the realm of measurement and tools, focusing on chemistry and earth sciences. Led by our expert instructors, participants will explore how various instruments are used to measure pH, wind speed, atmospheric humidity, location on Earth, earthquake activity, pressure, frequency, and distance. Through a combination of hands-on activities, demonstrations, and discussions, participants will develop a deeper understanding of these concepts and their real-world applications.
Workshop Details:
Date: 21st April, 2024
Time: 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Location: Earthlab CLub, Shivam Vihar
Inaugural Earthlab STEM Club Workshop.
FREE ENTRY! LIMITED SEATS. REGISTER NOW.
About Expert:
Clifford Prince uses everyday events to explain the scientific phenomenon behind them which makes it easy for anyone to relate to. He is currently a research scholar at Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, ISRO.
Workshop Flow:
Exploring Our Environment: Workshop on Chemical and Atmospheric Measurements
Provide an overview of the workshop objectives and the significance of measurement in chemistry and earth sciences.
Discuss the importance of accurate measurements in understanding chemical reactions, atmospheric phenomena, and geological events.
Hands-On Activities:
Participants will engage in hands-on activities to measure pH using pH paper, wind speed using an anemometer, atmospheric humidity using a hygrometer, and location on Earth using a GPS device.
Explore the principles behind each measurement and the instruments used.
Advanced Measurement Tools:
Our expert instructors will provide demonstrations and discussions on advanced measurement tools such as seismographs, pressure gauges, oscilloscopes, and rangefinders.
Discuss the principles behind each instrument and their applications in chemistry, meteorology, geology, and physics.
Activity: Detecting Earthquake Activity:
Participants will use a seismograph to detect and measure simulated earthquake activity.
Discuss the role of seismology in earthquake monitoring and the importance of early detection systems.
Data Collection and Analysis:
Participants will collect data from their measurements and observations using various instruments.
Analyze the collected data to identify patterns, trends, and correlations.
Discussion and Application:
Conclude the workshop with a group discussion on the significance of the measurements conducted and their implications in chemistry, meteorology, and earth sciences.
Reflect on the practical applications of measurement tools in understanding and addressing real-world challenges.
